The Crest

£25.00

A stripped-back homage to the crest that has represented The Arsenal since 1949.

In the last matchday programme of the 1948 title winning season, editor Harry Homer attempted to sum up our campaign, “...my mind seeks an apt quotation with which to close this season which has been such a glorious one for Tom Whittaker, Joe Mercer and all connected with The Gunners. Shall we turn for once to Latin? ‘Victoria Concordia Crescit’. Translation: ‘Victory grows out of harmony.’”

A year later Arsenal unveiled a new crest on the cover of the 1949/50 handbook. Featuring the now famous latin motto, a new Arsenal gothic typeface, the cannon, Islington’s coat of arms and an ermine spot background pattern.
